Sawyer: You okay, Freckles?
Kate [looking terrified, but trying to be tough]: Yeah. You?
Sawyer: Just swell. I requested that cage, but whatever. Nice dress.
Kate: They made me wear it.
Sawyer: You hungry?
[Sawyer tosses her the fish biscuit and she hungrily takes a bite.]

Sawyer: Are you having fun yet, Freckles?
Kate: Quit staring at my ass.
Sawyer: Give me something else to stare at.

[We see Sawyer and Kate being put back in their cages. Sawyer is coughing and in pain.]
Kate: Are you okay?
Sawyer: Never better.
Kate: What the hell were you thinking?
Sawyer: I couldn't help myself -- you just looked so damn cute swinging that pickaxe. Chain gang looks good on you, Freckles.
Kate [calling his bluff]: Sawyer.
Sawyer: Two of those guards got some real fight in them. The rest of them, I'm not so much worried about. That heavy-set guy -- he packs a hell of a punch. The shaggy-haired kid's got some kind of martial arts training, but I think I could take him if I had to. Oh, FYI -- those zapper things got a safety on them.
Kate [smiling]: Did you see the look on their faces when you got a hold of that rifle?
Sawyer: I'm guessing most of these boys have never seen any real action. But that blond who had a gun pointed at you? She would have shot you -- no problem.
Kate: Why'd she call you James?
Sawyer: Because that's my name. I noticed something else, too. You taste like strawberries.
Kate: You taste like fish biscuits. So what do we do now?
Sawyer: Well, Shortcake, now we wait for these bastards to make a mistake. Sooner or later, they're going to let their guard down. And when they do, we're going to be there to put them in their place.

Kate: What happened?
Sawyer: We happened.
Kate: What?
Sawyer: Been on this rock long enough to realize they ain't in the business of shooting each other. We did it. Our team.
Kate [indignant]: You smiling?
Sawyer: Damn right I'm smiling. Because we just got our ticket out of here.

[We see Sawyer maneuvering the levers in his cage to make the food drop.]
Kate: What are you doing? [he doesn't respond] Whenever you're ready to fill me in.
Sawyer: Shush up, I'm thinking.
[He finishes the sequence and the food drops, the song plays.]
Sawyer: You know that chick they brought in on the stretcher -- that's broken nose man's girl.
Kate: They call him Pickett.
[We see water from Sawyer's cage flowing into a small pool just outside the door.]
Sawyer: Well, Pickett is distracted at the moment.
Kate: So?
Sawyer: Watch and learn, little lady. [He presses the big button twice with a stick] There's juice pumping into this box from somewhere. Next time someone comes to pull me out, I'm going to wait until they step in my little swimming hole, and I grab them. Zap! They fall back from the shock -- I snag the keys. Bet the bears never thought of that.
Kate: You're both going to get electrocuted.
Sawyer: Yeah, I felt the jolt. I can take it. The other guy -- he ain't going to be ready for it. What, you think I'm crazy?
Kate: No, I'm actually impressed.
Sawyer: Well, wipe the stars out of eyes, sweetheart -- because we're going to do this.
Kate: So, what about Jack?
Sawyer: What about him? We don't even know if he's here. Hell, we don't even know if he's alive. We've got to take care of us. It's every man for himself, Freckles.

[We see Kate pacing in her cage as they bring Sawyer back to his cage.]
Kate: Sawyer? Sawyer, are you okay?
Tom [putting a bucket of water and a sponge in the cages. To Kate]: That's so you can clean yourselves. And Kate if any of that doesn't fit, just give me a holler, okay? [he exits]
Kate: What happened? What did they do to you?
Sawyer: Nothing, they just asked me questions. It ain't important.
Kate: Talk to me. What happened?
Sawyer: Look, I told you. Nothing happened. So quit asking.
[Kate empties out a bag of clothes which was left in her cage.]
Kate: Turn around.
[Sawyer turns so she can change and checks under the bandage on his chest. He's sees a 2-3 inch incision wound. He looks at Kate who is facing away, but taking off her shirt. The alarm on his heart monitor starts beeping.]
Kate: What's that?
Sawyer: It's just my watch. It's busted.
Kate: When did you get a watch?
Sawyer: Look, I don't tell you everything! Just leave me alone, damn it. Put some clothes on.
[He dumps a bucket of water over his head.]

[Pickett in a rage goes to Sawyer's cage.]
Sawyer: Hey, hey hey hey hey. Take it easy, Hoss. Take it easy. [Pickett drags him out of the cage and throws him to the ground.] Take it easy!
Pickett [throwing him against Kate's cage]: Shut up!! [to Kate] Do you love this guy?
Kate: What?
Pickett [punching Sawyer]: I said do you love him?!!
Kate: Stop!
Pickett [punching Sawyer]: Do you love him?! Do you love him?!!
Kate: Leave him alone!!
Pickett [punching Sawyer]: Do you love him?!
Kate: What are you doing? Stop!!
Pickett: Do [punch] you [punch] love [punch] him [punch]!
Kate: Yes! I love him!! I love him!! Please. [she cries, Pickett chokes back tears]

Kate: Are you okay?
Sawyer: Dandy. Guy hits like a girl. No offense.
Kate: Why did he do that?
Sawyer: Hell if I know. These people ever make any sense to you?
[Kate starts climbing to the top of her cage.]
Sawyer: What are you doing? What are you doing?
Kate: What does it look like?
Sawyer: Hang on a second, Freckles.
[Kate climbs out.]
Sawyer: I told you, the time ain't right.
Kate: You're the one that said we had to go.
Sawyer: Well, that was before...
Kate: Before what?! I don't know what they did to you. But I know you're scared enough to lie about it. And that scares me more than anything that they have done to us before.
Sawyer: Wait. [Kate climbs down the outside of the cage] Wait! What are you doing?
[She starts hitting the lock on his cage with a rock.]
Kate: I'm getting you out of here.
Sawyer: Don't.
Kate: I'm not leaving you, Sawyer. I can get it open.
Sawyer: No. You're already out. You've got to go. You've got to leave me!
Kate: What?
Sawyer: Run!
Kate: What did they do to you?!
Sawyer: Will you go!!
[The alarm on Sawyer's heart monitor starts beeping.]
Kate: What is that thing?
Sawyer: Run. Just go. It's every man for himself.
Kate: Why didn't you fight back?! Tell me the truth for once in your life!
Sawyer: If you really love me -- go.
Kate: I only said that so he'd stop hitting you. [she walks back to her cage]
Sawyer: Run. Hurry! [she climbs back up] What the hell are you doing? Kate?! Damn it, Freckles, go. Every man for himself.
[Kate gets back in her cage.]
Kate: Live together, die alone.

[Kate awakens as the cage door clanks. The siren is blaring "Warning", and Sawyer is throwing rocks at the feeding apparatus in his cage.]
Kate: Hey.
Sawyer: Hey yourself.
Kate: What are you doing?
Sawyer: Throwin' rocks.
Kate: Thought you had to pull the lever.
Sawyer: I know how to get a damn fish biscuit.
Kate: Get me one.
Sawyer: Psh. What, you trying to keep me feeling productive?

[Kate is led back to her cage by Juliet. She removes the hood from her head to realize Sawyer's cage is empty.]
Juliet: Sawyer. You really care about him, huh?
Kate: Where is he?
Juliet: I'm sorry you weren't able to help us, Kate.
[Pickett is holding Sawyer at gunpoint, and pushing him forward.]
Juliet: Danny...
[Suddenly, Pickett knocks Sawyer over the head with his gun violently, pushing him in the cage.]
Juliet: DANNY! [Pickett locks the cage]
Pickett: Right. Sorry, Jules. [Back at Sawyer] You got anything you wanna say to your girl? You best say it tonight.
[Danny gives him a dirty look and stalks off, Juliet following. Sawyer stands up painfully.]
Sawyer: And how was your day, honey?

Kate: I saw Jack. They brought me in to see him. They want him to do surgery on Ben.
Sawyer: Who the hell is Ben?
Kate: Henry. The guy who brought us in. He's sick. And they say that if he does it, they're gonna let us all go.
Sawyer: And you and me are what, bait?
Kate: Something like that.
Sawyer: At least the doc ain't dumb enough to do it.
Kate: I told him he had to.
Sawyer: Why the hell would you do something so stupid?!
Kate: To save your life!
Sawyer: My life don't need saving!
Kate: You want to die?! Because that's what's going to happen! Pickett is just waiting for his chance! I've seen him look at you!
[Kate starts climbing up the bars of her cage to the top.]
Sawyer: Dammit, Freckles, stay put.
Kate: And you know what he's going to do! So don't pretend like you don't care!
Sawyer: Get down, Freckles, we've already been through this.
Kate: Shut up, James.
[Kate climbs to top and out through smaller opening. She then walks up to Sawyer's cage.]
Kate: You don't want Jack to save your life? Then you're gonna save your own. We're getting out of here now. [Starts banging on lock with a rock]
Sawyer: Stop it, dammit, Kate!
[Kate ignores him and bangs on lock, eventually opening the lock and then opening the cage door.]
Kate: Go! Get out of here, run!
Sawyer: You're out of your cage. Why don't you run?! Because me? I ain't running, 'cause there ain't no place to go.
Kate: What are you talking about?
Sawyer: [Sigh] We ain't on our island. We're on another island, like Alcatraz, couple miles off shore. So unless you're a mermaid, or you got a boat, there ain't no point.
Kate: [Pushing Sawyer in chest] When were you planning on telling me this?
Sawyer: [Whispering] Never.
Kate: Why not?! Why wouldn't you?!
Sawyer: 'Cause I wanted you to believe we had a goddamn chance.
[Kate, crying, kisses Sawyer. They embrace.]
Sawyer: What was that for?
Kate: I don't know.
[They share a passionate kiss. Sawyer pins her up against the cage bars, and they start stripping off their clothes.]

[Back in Kate's cage, she and Sawyer are embraced and laying peacefully.]
Sawyer: Lemme ask you something, Freckles. When Blockhead was beating on me, and you said "I love you." That was just... to get him to stop, right?
[Kate is silent as Sawyer strokes her hair. She kisses him without a word, and then lays down on his chest.]
Sawyer: I love you, too.

[At cages, it is raining. Kate sees Pickett and the Other man approach and tries to wake up Sawyer.]
Kate: Sawyer.
Pickett: Well, well, well. Look who got out of her cage. You shoulda run when you had the chance. Let's go, James.
Kate: Don't, please! You don't have to do this. [Grasping Sawyer]
Pickett: He's coming with me, and there's nothing you can do about it! Step away!

[Back at cages, Sawyer is trying to get Kate to pull away from him.]
Pickett: Step away!
[Sawyer punches out the man with him and grabs Pickett's hand with the gun. There's a scuffle, and Sawyer ends up with Pickett's gun pointed at Pickett, but Kate has been overtaken by the Other man.]
Pickett: You let go, or I do her too!
[Sawyer looks over at Kate, who is helpless, pinned at gunpoint up against the cage bars by the second Other man.]
Pickett: Let go!
Kate: Don't you let go! Don't you think about it, Sawyer, you fight! No! Sawyer, NO!!
[Sawyer lets go and lets Pickett have the upper hand. He is pushed face-first into the cage bars, and Pickett holds the gun to his head.]
Kate: No, NO!! Sawyer, PLEASE! You get your hands off of him!
Pickett: Get on your knees! [Pushes Sawyer to his knees]
Kate: Please!! I'll do anything you want!
Pickett: I want you to watch!
Sawyer: Close your eyes, Freckles.
Kate: Stand up!
Sawyer: Close your eyes!
[Sawyer closes his eyes, as Pickett prepares to shoot him execution style.]
Kate: NO! NO! NO!
Pickett: This is for Colleen. You son-of-a-bitch!
[Kate is crying in the pouring rain]

b>Kate: That's our island?
Sawyer: What, you didn't believe me when I told you before?
Kate: We need a boat.
Sawyer: Yeah, a couple of towels and buffet lunch.
Kate: We'll just keep following the beach. There's got to be one around here somewhere. How else would they get back and forth?
Sawyer: Why don't you stop and ask for directions?

Kate: Are you okay?
Jack: I'm fine.
Sawyer: Tell him I said hi -- get to the point!

Kate: I've got an idea.
Sawyer: Of course you do.

Kate: Shoot him in the knee.
Sawyer: What?
Kate [grabbing the riffle]: Give me the damn rifle. We don't have time for this. I'll do it.

Sawyer: Damn good con, Freckles. I almost believed you were going to shoot that boy.
Kate: It wasn't a con.

Sawyer: The trades are coming. We've got go. Let's go.

Sawyer [singing]: Show me the way to go home/I'm tired and I want to go to bed/I had a little drink about an hour ago/And it went straight to my head.
Kate: Stop.
Sawyer: What, you want a turn steering?
Kate: We have to go back.
Sawyer: What the hell are you talking about?
Kate: Turn the boat around, Sawyer. I mean it.
Sawyer: Have you lost your mind? We just got away.
Kate: Just do it.
Sawyer: You give me one good reason to turn around!
Kate: Because we can't leave Jack behind!
Sawyer [pausing and staring at her]: Yes we can, Freckles, because that's what he asked us to do. You think about it - if we go back there - what do you think Captain Bunny Killer's going to do if he catches us?
Karl [off camera]: Kill you. [we see Karl, out-of-it, lying in the end of the boat] God loves you as he loves Jacob.
Sawyer: Okay, thanks for the input. [to Kate] Sorry, kiddo, Jack's on his own.

Sawyer: Never thought I'd be glad to get back to this rock again.
Kate: What are you doing?
Sawyer: What does it look like? I'm heading into shore.
Kate: Why? If we just keep going we can circle round. Sooner or later we'll get to camp. We can tell Locke and Sayid what happened -
Sawyer: Oh, we will, huh? You got a map you ain't showing me, Magellan? We've got no food, no water - and I can't steer in the dark.
Kate: Then I'll steer.
Sawyer: No, you'll come ashore; we'll make camp. You want to contribute - you can build a campfire while I carry the kid. [Kate just stares at him] Glad we agree.

Sawyer [offering mango]: Sure you ain't hungry?
Kate: No, James, I ain't hungry.

Kate: Sawyer. Sawyer, wake up. He's gone. Karl's gone.
Sawyer: Where? [they search a bit and hear something] Hold up.
[They stop and can hear Karl crying.]
Sawyer: I got it.
Kate: No, let me talk to him.
Sawyer: I got it - boys only.

Sawyer: I've been with a lot of girls. Some of them worth the trouble, some not. Every now and again there's one - one you name dumb stars with.

Kate: Where's Karl?
Sawyer: I let him go.
Kate: You what?!
Sawyer: I let him go.
Kate: He could have led us back to where they live.
Sawyer: What, you think I cut him loose because I'm so damn sensitive? The kid's a target! Ben ain't never going to stop looking for him...
Kate: All Ben wants is that kid as far from his daughter as possible.
Sawyer: Let's get back to camp. [Kate is annoyed but doesn't respond] Well, are you coming, or not?
Kate: Should I walk beside you, or ten paces behind you? You've gotten so good at telling me what to do, I can't think for myself anymore.
Sawyer: Don't take it out on me because you feel guilty.
Kate: I don't feel guilty.
Sawyer: The hell you don't.
Kate: We had to leave Jack behind. I didn't have a choice.
Sawyer: I'm not talking about leaving Jack behind. I'm talking about you and me. I know you did it because you thought I was dead man. So don't beat yourself because the Doc's left behind.
Kate: I'm not beating myself up.
Sawyer: Of course you're not. So, now that we got that out of the way, let's go.

Sawyer: Are we there yet?
Kate: If we are where I think we are, then our beach should be just through those trees. We'll be home in about five minutes.
Sawyer: Try to contain your excitement, Freckles.
Kate: Forgive me if I'm not excited about explaining why there's only two of us coming back, James.
Sawyer: Well, maybe they should explain why they ain't come looking for us. In fact, I'd be surprised if Locke... [He steps on something] ow! Aah!
Kate: What happened?
Sawyer: Stepped on something. Son of a bitch!
Kate: Here, let me see. Looks like a... dart.
Sawyer: How the hell did it get out here?
Kate: All right, just relax your foot for a second, okay? I'm gonna pull it out on the count of three. You ready? One...
[She pulls it out]
Sawyer: Ow! I thought you said three.
Kate: Yeah, well, anticipation's the worst part. I thought I would spare you.
[She sits beside him]
Kate: You know, all you have to do is say sorry. We could start again, give each other a clean slate.
Sawyer: A clean slate... Like on "Little House"?
Kate: What?
Sawyer: "Little House On The Prairie"? Laura Ingalls used to write on this little chalkboard at school.
Kate: You call it "Little house"?
Sawyer: I had mono when I was a kid. I missed two months of school. We only got one channel in my trailer.
Kate: What are we even talking about?
Sawyer: Ah, we ain't talking about nothing.
[He gets up]
Kate: James...
Sawyer: and I ain't got nothing to be sorry for.
Kate: So that's how it's gonna be?
[She walks past him]
Kate: Welcome home, Sawyer.
Sawyer: Welcome home, Kate.

Sawyer: Hey! You seen Kate around?
Hurley: Well, she's not back yet?
[Sawyer shakes his head]
Hurley: Huh.

Hurley: She'll be OK, dude. Kate. I know you're worried about her. But she's with Locke and Sayid. She's gonna be fine.

Sawyer: Hey, Freckles. You home?
Kate: I thought you weren't allowed to use nicknames.
Sawyer: Well, you weren't around when I lost the bet, so you're - [He goes inside and sees her getting dressed.] - ...exempt.
Kate: What's up?
Sawyer: I wanted to ask you something.
Kate: Yeah
[Sawyer keeps staring at her body]
Kate: [pointing to her face] I'm up here.
Sawyer: Uh... so did you tell him?
Kate: Did I tell who what?
Sawyer: You know. Did you tell the doc? About you and me.
Kate: No. But he knows. He saw us on one of those surveillance monitors.
Sawyer: But you said the camera was broken!
Kate: Well, they had another camera.
Sawyer: Those perverts!
Kate: Anyway, he knows.
Sawyer: Well, now that that's out of the way, how about a little afternoon delight? That means sex.
Kate: I know.
[She smiles and pushes him out of the tent and gets out too.]
Sawyer: Come on, Freckles, wait! Now hold- You need me to make you a mix tape?
Kate: Yeah, why don't you do that?

[Kate gets in Sawyer's tent]
Sawyer: What? My doorbell bursted again?
[She walks to him]
Sawyer: What the hell you doing?
[Kate gets on top of him]
Kate: Shut up and don't talk.
[She kisses him passionately. Sawyer stops her]
Sawyer: Are you crying?
Kate: I said shut up.
[She unbuttons his shirts and starts licking his chest]
Sawyer: You got it!

[Sawyer hands Kate a tape]
Kate: What's this?
Sawyer: Your mix tape.
[Kate is smiling and looking at him]
Sawyer: Well, you gonna take it or ain't you?
[She takes it]
Kate: The best of Phill Collins, huh?
Sawyer: Don't get picky. And if Bernard asks, I don't know a thing about it.
Kate: Thanks, James!
Sawyer: So why did you jump on me last night?
Kate: What?
Sawyer Was it because you saw the doc hanging out with Juliet?
Kate: It's not like that.
Sawyer: It's not? You ain't gotta use me, Freckles. All you have to do is ask.

Sawyer: Hey, where you going?
Kate: I can't sleep if I'm not in my own tent.
Sawyer: Fine. Let's go to your tent.
Kate: Hm, it's nothing personal it's just... old habits, you know?
Sawyer: Fine, scram! Want me to walk you home?
Kate: It's 5 tents, I think I'll make it.
Sawyer: Are you sure? I gotta pee anyway.
Kate: That's so romantic!
[She kisses him and leaves]

Kate: Something is wrong
Sawyer: Lots of things are wrong, Kate. Kate: Jin, Bernard, Sayid, they should've caught up to us by now. I wanna go back to make sure they're alright.
Sawyer: Of course you do.
Kate: What's that supposed to mean?
Sawyer: It means Kate has always someone to go back for.
Kate: What's the matter with you?
Sawyer: Nothing.
Kate: Nothing?!
Sawyer: I'm fine.
Kate: Why don't you just tell me what happened?
[He doesn't answer and she splashes him]
Sawyer: What did you do that for?
Kate: To wake you up!Ever since you got that tape from Locke it's like you've been sleepwalking. If you don't care about our friends, fine, but...it's like you don't care about anything anymore! And since when did you start calling me Kate?
[He gets up]
Kate: You know...They sent Juliet to check out Sun. But she is there to check and see if I'm pregnant too.
Sawyer: Well, let's hope you're not.

Sawyer:: I'm going back
Jack:: What?
Sawyer:: I'm going back to the beach.
Jack:: No way. We keep moving.
Sawyer:: I ain't asking permission. Look, you've got a job to do here. I ain't gonna stand in your way of doing it. But you sure as hell don't need me.
Jack:: What do you think you're gonna get done? Alone and unarmed.
Kate:: He won't be alone, I'll go with him.
Sawyer:: No.
Kate:: Twenty minutes ago you weren't even interested in going and now all of sudden you're telling Jack that I-
Sawyer:: I didn't wanna go with you.
